A homicide is taking the life of another human being without justification. A homicide that is premeditated, or planned, is called first degree murder and is a capital felony , punishable by the death penalty in Florida. A homicide that is not planned is a second degree murder, which is punishable by up to life in prison.

felony murder occurs when someone commits a crime and the death of someone is a result of that crime. This is also punishable by the death penalty.
